Stand Up Thumbs Down
This piece of art was inspired by a photograph taken of Marika Morris giving a thumbs down to one of the so-called freedom convoy roaming her residential street. Marika, along with some neighbours, stood on their street blocking the truck, and repeated the thumbs down signal every time the truck honked. A neighbour was able to get a photograph of the scene, posted it online, and it went viral. This image of Marika's courage in standing up for her neighbourhood inspired this artwork (Ottawa, Winter 2022)
